True Grit!
When I was a young boy I remember I was full of dreams. I guess I was like Joseph in the Bible, the “dreamer.” My entrepreneurial spirit was alive and well even as a child. I remember reading about ideas to make money in different publications that I was receiving through school. One print publication was a magazine called “True Grit.” I can’t recall everything about it but I do remember it was full of stories of people who had gone on to do great things. I loved that magazine so much I decided to start selling subscriptions door to door for the magazine company! Every time some new school fund raising project came up I was the first one to jump on board! I sold everything from packs of vegetable seeds to “STP” stickers that I had accumulated over time. I got my own paper route when I was twelve years old and every day I had over 100 customers and I had to drudge through snow, sleet or blazing heat to make sure they got their newspapers. But for me it was a way to get my dream. I was determined to improve my lot and get the things I wanted. And not even nature could stop me!
Now that I am dreaming again I have developed the following equation:
“Faith + Imagination + Determination = Destination”
I now believe whole heartedly that my Faith in God coupled with my God given ability to dream dreams and have vision along with an unshakable determination to see my dreams come to fruition will see it come to pass! After all, isn’t that what faith is? Believing in what you cannot see physically, but in your mind and through your belief system you know to be true.
“The miracle or the power that elevates the few is to be found in their industry, application, and perseverance under the prompting of a brave, determined spirit.”
– Mark Twain
Perhaps you have found yourself during these tough economic times fighting to hold on to your dreams, your business, your way of life, your home? I know that it is during these difficult times our willingness to do whatever it takes will determine whether or not we will keep our dreams alive. My wife, just this morning, told me of a man from Ecuador who was in a Home Depot purchasing a whole shopping cart full of tools to be shipped back to his country of origin. He had moved here with his family with hopes of a better tomorrow only to have given up because of the difficulties these economic times have brought. I am not judging, I have had those thoughts myself, as have countless thousands of others. I understand, however, I refuse to give up. I love the Florida lifestyle and believe that this is where my family was meant to develop our roots. I am determined to do whatever it takes to keep the dream alive! Are you?
